MEDICAL EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of the American University of Beirut, MD 1984, Dr. Moucharafieh finished his residency
training in Orthopaedics at the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 1998. He joined
the Robert Jones and Agnus Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in the United Kingdom where he did 3
years of Fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery.

Dr. Moucharafieh joined the Department of Surgery at the American University of Beirut in 1991as
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics, Hand and Microvascular Surgery, later to be appointed an
Associate Professor in 1997 and a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Department of Orthopaedics
at the St Georges University Medical Center in 2005.

Professor Moucharafieh served as Head of the Orthopaedic Surgery Division at the American
University of Beirut Medical Center from July 1993 till June 1999 and Director of the Emergency
Unit at the American University of Beirut Medical Center July 1992 till March 2000.

Professor Moucharafieh serves as President of the Lebanese Society for Reconstructive
Microsurgery and medical reviewer of the European Journal of Hand Surgery.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Member of the British Orthopaedic Association, Member of the
British Society for Surgery of the Hand and Member, British Microsurgical Society.

He is fully licensed to practice in the United Kingdom by the General Medical Council.

A Member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Professor
Moucharafieh is a Founding Member of the American Academy of Emergency Physicians and a
Member and Liaison Officer, Society for International Advancement of Emergency Medical Care.

He is a Member of the International Association for the Study of Pain and a Member of the
American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Currently, Professor Moucharafieh serves as a member of the AO Foundation Faculty and a member
of the AO Alumni Association.
