Prof. Klaus-Dieter Schaser, deputy head of the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery, will move to the University Center for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (OUC) at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden on June 1, 2015.
In his new role as medical director, he replaces the retired Prof. Hans Zwipp, who has held the professorship for trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Faculty of Medicine since 1993 and most recently headed the OUC together with Prof. Klaus-Peter Günther.
While working at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin BerlinProf. Klaus-Dieter Schaser accompanied the 2002 institutional merger of the subjects of orthopedics and trauma and reconstructive surgery into a center for musculoskeletal surgery (CMSC) and filled these new structures with life from the beginning as a senior physician and since 2009 as deputy center manager.
In addition to the expansion of the dream network in East Saxony, his new position in Dresden also includes the establishment of an interdisciplinary spine center and the establishment of an old-age trauma center. The establishment of such interdisciplinary centers should ensure a high-quality range of treatments and permanently establish Dresden at the top of German university medicine.
